Discovering the military and maritime heritage. With more than 20 stops, you'll discover Hellevoetsluis' history. Garnisons, casemates, the famous Canon 24 IJ, the historic harbour and drydock and the bunkers are witnesses of the city maritime and military history.


In the footsteeps of... Walk into the footsteps of Charles, Michiel de Ruyter and Napoleon. Charles V called Flushing ‘The key of the Netherlands’ and built the Imperial stronghold. Walk along historical locations and visit the exhibition in the Napoleonic Casemates. Duration : 25 minutes

Fortress by the sea...  This trail of 3.5km takes visitors past almost forgotten places from the history of this maritime fortified city. You will visit remnants of the Medieval city but also the landing beach where Flushing was liberated in 1944. You will also discover the harbor and dry-dock built by the admiralty as a part of the fortified city.
